The program (scheduled to end at the end of September) will now be extended to 28 March 2021 for those business that continue to be significantly impacted by the Coronavirus.
Existing JobKeeper Payments will remain in place until 27 September 2020. For business currently receiving JobKeeper payments, these will remain unchanged and available until 27 September.
Extended JobKeeper Program will be available to eligible businesses that continue to experience a decline in turnover, with the introduction of stepped-down payments, and a two-tier payment system.
Business Eligibility
According to the Treasurer, from 28 September businesses seeking to claim JobKeeper payments will be required to reassess their eligibility, by demonstrating they have met the continuing relevant decline in actual turnover in both the June and September 2020 quarters.
To be eligible for JobKeeper payments from 4 January to 28 March, businesses will need to demonstrate that they have met the relevant continuing decline in turnover test in each of the previous three quarters – ending June, September and December – to remain eligible for the March 2021 quarter.
Decline in Turnover
The relevant decline in turnover tests for business wishing to participate in the extended JobKeeper Payment program (post 28 September 2020), are:
- 50 per cent for those with an aggregated turnover of more than $1 billion;
- 30 per cent for those with an aggregated turnover of $1 billion or less; or
- 15 per cent for Australian Charities and Not for profits Commission-registered charities (excluding schools and universities).
The JobKeeper program will continue to remain open to new recipients, provided they meet the existing eligibility requirements and the additional turnover tests during the extension period.
JobKeeper Payment Rates
The JobKeeper payment will be reduced and paid at two rates:
